Politics 101: Dissembling for fun & profit
Kerry, shortly before virtually locking up the Dem nomination, spews sewage:
While making his first appearance of the year in the Senate during yesterday's debate, Kerry said "military-style assault weapons" have no place on the shelves of American gun sellers. "I believe strongly in the Second Amendment. I believe in the right to bear arms as has been interpreted in this country," said Kerry, an avid quail hunter. "There is, however, no right to place military-style assault weapons in the hands of terrorists or criminals."
Think about this for a moment: what was the definition of a military-style weapon back when the constitution was written? Musket pistols & rifles, same as what the general public carried around. The average american citizen, in the view of the founders of the country, had every right to have a "military-style" weapon, the primative rifles and pistols of the time were their equivalent to an m-16 or Mac-10 today, and carried no restriction. John Kerry cannot simultaneously say that he believes in the 2nd amendment and have qualifications as to what type of firearm a person can use to exercize that right, the authority just does not exist, period.
Also, the author of this article misinterprets the entire point of the 2nd amendment by finding it relevant to mention that Kerry is "an avid quail hunter". Look at the 2nd amendment again, does it say anything at all about hunting?
