Gephardt gets desperate: "Howard Dean is in cahoots with GINGRICH!!!"

Well...actually back then Dean & Newt did agree on medicare somewhat, so I suppose it's not that bad of an attack. Still, anyone accusing him of being some conservative-in-sheep's-clothing is delusional. He flip-flopped to be more acceptable to the democratic base, that's politics for you...

In case anyone is wondering, no I am not going to make some long speech about the anniversary of 9/11. I will simply say this:

F**k religious fundamentalism.

Straight to the point. Understand? Now back to your everyday lives...

I plan on having a permanent link to this when the errors are worked out. May that occur soon...

Among other talk of the Democratic Debacle, Polipundit drops this strange charge:

"The PATRIOT Act, supported by 3 in 4 Americans, is very unpopular with liberals. Candidates who voted for the act were forced to express their distaste for it."

Who were these americans the poll was submitted to (hell, who ran the poll)? CIA agents? I have yet to see a hint of any americans that actually know the extent to which the patriot act goes that do not immediately take a huge dump on it upon mention. Yes, I am calling BS -- anyone out there who supports the patriot act who is still reading this, I challenge you to attempt to prove that statistic.

Nick Gillespie: "FoxNews is clearly right-wing biased, because only conservatives would have sponsored Democrats imploding on national TV ;^)".

LOL...

Update - 9/10/03
An interesting tidbit in the debate itself...

"While [Carol Moseley-]Braun said that she would support gun controls, Dean said that he doesn't think gun control laws that are applied in urban communities where gun crimes are higher should be applied in rural states like Vermont where gun crimes are low."

Now Dean should ask himself why gun crimes are lower in those areas, and explain why the same cannot be applied elsewhere...

This could quite easily be interpreted as a suggestion that minorities and/or the poor can't handle the responsibility that comes with the right to bear arms. Ponder it for a moment: who are most of the inhabitants in urban communities?

Ethnic minorities being deemed less deserving of their 2nd amendment rights than whites? Michael Moore would have a field day with this...that is, if it weren't said by a "liberal" Democrat.

Update 2 - same day

Vodkapundit points out the childishness of the candidates as well, but also mentions the Cosmic Ass-Kick that american politics is simply going to HAVE to recieve if we have any hope whatsoever of our power not being reduced to that of choosing what variety of bread & circuses we shall piss away our brains on while all the important stuff has been decided for us. Read it, then etch it into your forehead with a steak knife:

"We voters want it all: low taxes, big spending, the works. So perhaps it's unfair to bash the Democrats for promising to deliver the impossible things we require.

But, damnit, somebody has to be the grownups in this country. If we voters are the problem, then we need someone responsible enough to tell us "no" now and again. And if they won't, then we have to grow up and stop indulging our politicians."

Completely, unquestionably, on point. People, have we all flunked math? If you want massive government spending to do everything down to wiping your ass, it WILL cost MONEY, money that comes from US, the taxpayers of this country. No one likes to think of the negatives though, it's all ganjabrownies & pay-per-view for them -- "why, some people may have to take RISKS! Some people may have to take care of themselves! How can you possibly fathom such a thing! You fascist bastard, you!"

Me to the american public: *slap* SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen to yourselves. You complain when big government eats away at your livelihood, but you don't want them to stop doing what requires them to do it. You consider yourselves individuals, yet you believe that everyone can finish the game at the same time. You cheer and pat yourselves on the back when your involvement in the market nets you a gain, but whine like toddlers when you lose. You brag and boast about how much you support "freedom" yet vote against anyone that doesn't wish to legislate morality.

You, quite simply, are selling out the rest of us. Plain and simple.

As long as you support burning the candle at both ends, as long as you continue to empower this political feedback-loop from hell to consume our lives, as long as you expect to reach the moon w/ a rubberband...YOU are the fascist, not me.

Bush: "I guess I was wrong"

Granted, most of the speech was just typical rhetoric ("we're building freedom in Iraq", etc...), but near the end he threw in an apparent acknowledgement that his estimates of the costs for the war & reconstruction were overly optimistic.

So we're going to the UN for help and risking embarassment if (when, IMO) they tell us to shove our request where the sun doesn't shine. Considering how this had all started because of the uselessness of the UN ("Saddam, you will comply or...we'll make another resolution!"), to now expect their assistance is a huge political risk for Bush. People who were against the war in the first place will see this as their "told you so" moment, and if the involvement of the United Nations somehow actually materializes but doesn't appear to help substantially, more hawkish types may question what the point was.

Either way, hopefully this decision was not made for political reasons. Such a half-hearted gesture could only make things worse.

Update - 9/8/03
BTW: I'd recommend that Bush try not to let this face make another appearance. I'd hate to sound crass, but c'mon, this screams deer-in-headlights...

Reuters catches some advance excerpts from Bush's speech (scheduled for 8:30pm eastcoast time).

Will discuss afterwards.

This is both sad & kinda sick at the same time:
